I’m excited about the appearance of Word on the Street, a new monthly newspaper by and for the homeless community.
A flyer they hand out includes this information:
1/4 of Baltimore is living in poverty
5000 people are homeless every night
This is the news
Word on the Street is a non-profit newspaper that focuses on homelessness and poverty. It is written by individuals experiencing opverty and homelessness and by their allies.
The newspaper is sold by individual “vendors” who are experiencing homelessness and poverty, and 75 cents of every $1 newspaper sold goes directly to the vendor.
NEXT EDITION COMING IN JUNE!
My apprehension is that the paper may present the same old worn-out “solutions” to homelessness and poverty. I recently came across this quote from Richard Nixon that I find oxymoronically correct: “Solutions aren’t the answer,” he said.
